You Never Know....

When you start something new you can never be certain that it will come out the way you planned. Lots of people who make soap decide to move from soaps to bath bombs, wax melts, candles, etc. It makes perfect sense to continue following that aroma path, and find your niche that way.

I've always been a bit different. Partly because I lost my sense of smell for awhile (due to a head injury - thank you Casey!) so I had find ways to make attractive soaps without a great deal of scent. I already decided to limit myself to essential oils, so that seriously limited my options. I also found that keeping our scents mild set us apart from other soapmakers. I've seen a good many people come to the table with smiles crossing their faces, pick up the soap only to put it back down and walk away saying "It doesn't smell enough." At first that was hard to hear, but now I see more people who pick up the soap and say "Oh, it's mild. I love that." There's place in the world for all of us.

For those who love a strong scented soap, please realize that the more you sniff a strong smell, the more your nose is going to adjust to it, requiring ever more scent to keep you happy. There are actual legal limits about how much essential oil or fragrance oil is allowed in soap, because too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.

So, instead of following down the scent path, I started making molded soaps in wonderful goat shapes. That has grown to a lot of different molds, and it has eventually grew into a whole new world, because my imagination never stops.

I have always strived to create products that help heal the planet and to make people more comfortable. I love it when someone finds a soap or a product that truly helps them. But to me, part of being happy is finding a place of peace, away from the stress of every day. That's why I came up with Caprenity, the idea of a using levity and lightness to bring a sense of serenity to a user's life. That has grown into a whole set of stories, some of which I've started publishing through this blog. "Knights of the Round Bale," are inspired by the molded soaps that I've made with the help of many amazing artists, and now a 3D printer to create those images that I can't find online.

We are starting to limit how many of any particular type of soap, that we are bringing to events. Currently we have more than 100 molds, and that is a bit overwhelming for some visitors. However, we do invite people to visit our website, www.surfinggoatsoap.net, to see more soaps of that subject - more cats, more dogs, more horses, etc. We are also always up for trying our hand at creating a new mold if there is enough interest. When I started my career as an environmental educator I didn't have any goats in my plans. Those troublesome caprines have brought me into a whole new realm of Caprenity and literature. I hope you'll explore this new world with me. Thank you.

Soaps Meet Scents

Surfing Goat Soaps uses only natural scents in our soaps. That means essential oils or honey. Why? Because we have such high quality milk in our product we feel it would be wrong to add chemicals to
